Lika is an embryologist and currently serves as chair of the Georgia Association of Reproductive Medicine and Embryology. In addition, she is the chair of one of the scientific groups of ESHRE, the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology, a member of the European IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) Monitoring Consortium, a member of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and a 2015 winner of the International Women&#8217;s Entrepreneurial Challenge (IWEC) award.<\/p>\n<p>Lia Chkonia completed her post-graduate studies and studied assisted reproductive technologies at the Jones Institute for Reproductive Medicine &#8211; Susan Lanzendorf\u2019s Lab in Norfolk, Virginia, USA, the clinic where the first IVF baby in the US was born. After completing her doctorate, Lika Chkhonia worked at the same Institute for Reproductive Medicine and was a certified teacher of assisted reproduction technologies, in particular, micromanipulation training programs. Since 1995, she has\u00a0 worked at Mount Sainai Hospital, OFRM (Offices for Fertility and Reproductive Medicine NY, NY, USA). Lia Chkonia has many years of experience working in IVF clinics in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Lia Chkonia&#8217;s medical career in Georgia began in 2003. At first, she was an embryologist at the IVF Unit of the Zhordania Institute of Human Reproduction and from 2006-2012 she headed the IVF Unit of the Junona Medical Center. In July 2012, Lia Chkonia founded the Georgian-American Reproductive Clinic ReproART and has been the clinic\u2019s director up to the present time. Her medical work is associated with the birth of the first child in Georgia as a result of sperm injection (ICSI &#8211; Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection), surgical sperm retrieval and frozen blastocyst.
